A kind of address used by ZCash that is highly private. They are not visible in the blockchain and offer strong privacy against transaction graph analysis. The value transferred is private if both the sender and receiver are shielded. Shielded addresses are not supported in every ZCash wallet.
Why Shielded Address Matters
Zcash's shielded addresses use zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs) to let the network verify a transaction is valid — sufficient funds, no double-spend — without revealing the sender, receiver, or amount on the public blockchain. In practice, shielded-to-shielded transactions have historically made up a minority of Zcash's total volume, since not every wallet or exchange supports them.
